Greg, I would say that a collector demonstrates that the things he collects have value for him, even if he knows he can't sell it on eBay, etc. I'm digging into "WHY is it of value to him in the 1st place if he can't or won't use it as it was intended? If you stick something in a vault with no intention of anyone ever using it or no ability to use it--and it seems to me plenty do this, in one way or another--you're demonstrating that you value the having, not the thing.Mark Kelly Hallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02606490605499065257noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35420274.post-33628082376518260902015-02-02T14:06:37.159-08:002015-02-02T14:06:37.159-08:00Good thought. They become dealers for two reasons. 1. The only intrinsic knowledge they have of any product is of what they themselves collect. 2. It makes it easier for them to find things to complete their own collections. People start coming to them instead of them searching constantly for what they need. <br /> Collector's per say collect because they love what it is they collect and enjoy their collections. A music not playing music will never happen. I think the comment you refer to was tongue and cheek. A reflection of how much he appriciated getting that album. He will undoubtedly play it. However for you, I think only YOU can answer that question for yourself. I like to collect, but I try very hard not to let it become an obsession. In the end it's all gonna burn, gotta always keep that in mind, but in the mean time let's enjoy it while were around and kicking. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
